Fastest Cars Under $30K

Fastest Cars Under 30 Thousand Dollars

Speed has a funny way of emptying pockets. It’s not uncommon that the faster a car goes, the more zeroes you’ll find on its price tag. Hypercars? Out of reach. What about supercars? It’s the same story. However, would you really want a car that offers head-snapping performance, and at the same time, increase your risk of a heart attack?

List of the Top 10 Fastest Cars Under $30,000…

What if I told you that you don’t need millions of dollars to satiate your thirst for speed? That’s correct. I’ve listed 10 of the fastest late-model cars you can buy under $30,000. If you need that extra kick, these entry-level performance cars would be the best for you, without drilling a hole into your wallet.

10. 2026 Subaru Impreza RS – 125 MPH

Fastest Cars Less Than 30 Thousand Dollars

If you’re a Subie fan, the Impreza RS could be a perfect fit for you. Hear me out: the Impreza RS is a smart package, has a fairly potent 182-horsepower boxer-four, and it’s the only hot hatch on the list with a default AWD, and costs $29,495 brand new! Sure, Subaru should’ve added an optional six-speed manual to the mix, but the carmaker’s advanced CVT technology allows for gearshift simulation.

Yes, it’s definitely not the most exciting performance car on the list, but it gets 18-inch dark-grey wheels, a much stiffer suspension setup, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display. All for under $30k brand new. See? That’s what a value-for-money performance hatchback should be.

However, while the 2.5-liter four-pot is decently potent, the CVT slows the acceleration from the get-go. A 7.8-second 0-60 MPH says it all. The top speed is limited to 125 MPH, making it the slowest car on the list. Still, I think the Impreza RS offers a much better value than most hot hatches out there under $30,000.

2026 Subaru Impreza RS Specs:
Engine 2.5L H4
Transmission CVT
Drive Type AWD
Horsepower 182
Torque 178 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 7.8 seconds
Quarter Mile 16.0 seconds
Top Speed 125 MPH

9. 2024 Hyundai Elantra N Line – 125 MPH

Fastest Cars Under Thirty Thousand Dollars
2025 Hyundai Elantra N Line (Image Credit: Hyundai)

The Elantra N Line is the spirited middle child in the Elantra family, and the closest competitor to the Honda Civic Si. At $28,975 brand new, the Elantra N Line serves as a great value with decent practicality as well.

The Elantra N Line ditches the base 2.0-liter four-pot for a smaller 1.6-liter engine, but adds a turbocharger. The result is 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. It drives the front wheels via a seven-speed DCT (no manual transmission option). 0-60 MPH comes in around 6.5 seconds and a quarter-mile under 15 seconds, which makes the Elantra N Line slightly quicker than the Civic Si. However, it falls short in top speed: 125 MPH.

The Elantra N Line is fast enough for most of us, especially being one of the cheapest performance vehicles you can buy brand new. Unless you choose its elder sibling, the Elantra N, the feature list doesn’t become attractive. But for a $28k performance sedan, the Elantra N Line features 18-inch alloy wheels, sportier front and rear elements, dual-tip exhaust, sporty front seats, and aluminum pedals. Apart from these features, you’ll get a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch driver information display as standard.

2025 Hyundai Elantra N Line
Specs:
Engine
1.6L Turbocharged I4
Transmission 7-speed DCT
Drive Type FWD
Horsepower 201
Torque 195 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 6.5 seconds
Quarter Mile 14.5 seconds
Top Speed 125 MPH

8. 2025 Mazda CX-30 – 126 MPH

Fastest Cars Under Thirty Thousand Usd
2025 Mazda CX-30 (Image Credit: Mazda)

The Mazda CX-30 is more like a do-it-all vehicle. For a starting price of just $25,195, it offers a well-built cabin with an 8.8-inch infotainment display, standard all-wheel drive, a much larger 2.5-liter inline-four engine, which is rated at 191 horsepower, a very practical rear seat experience, and a decent cargo area.

Sure, it’s not a sports car or a hot hatch, but it’s a well-packed crossover with all the features you’d need for daily driving. Also, the non-turbo CX-30 is a decent performer. 0-60 MPH could be achieved in 7.6 seconds. Keep your foot down on the gas pedal, and it can shoot to a quarter mile in 15.9 seconds. However, the top speed is limited to 126 MPH: not the fastest on the list.

If you want more performance, you can add a turbocharger to the base engine configuration. That way, you can easily add another 60-70 ponies, without putting the engine in jeopardy. Alternatively, you can go for the Carbon Turbo variant, which features a turbocharged version of the base engine from the factory. The Mazda CX-30 Carbon Turbo unlocks 250 horsepower, 320 pound-feet of torque, and will force you to shell out $33,140.

2025 Mazda CX-30 S Specs:
Engine 2.5L I4
Transmission 6-speed automatic
Drive Type AWD
Horsepower 191
Torque 186 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 7.6 seconds
Quarter Mile 15.9 seconds
Top Speed 126 MPH

7. Used 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI – 127 MPH

Fastest Cars Under 30 Grand

Hot hatches have become a rarity in the car community, and soon could become extinct due to lower sales numbers. Nevertheless, for car enthusiasts, performance hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Golf GTI have always been a point of interest. Today, if you have to buy a brand-new Golf GTI, it would cost you north of $32,000. So, the best thing would be to look for used options on the market. You can get a low-mileage Golf GTI for under $30,000, which makes it a bargain.

For the money, you’re getting a 241-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo four, a six-speed stick shift (a seven-speed DCT if you’re lucky), adaptive dampers (again, it’s on your luck), a list of advanced driver assistance systems, along with heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Now that’s impressive!

The GTI isn’t anything like the top-spec Golf R with instantaneous performance. Nevertheless, it isn’t far behind either. A manual Golf GTI can clock 60 MPH from a standstill in 5.8 seconds. Top speed is rated at 127 MPH, with the automatic variant faster by a mile per hour. You should know that the Golf GTI isn’t built for outright speed, but for you to have fun on the twisties.

2023 VW Golf GTI S Specs:
Engine 2.0L Turbocharged I4
Transmission 6-speed manual/7-speed DCT
Drive Type FWD
Horsepower 241
Torque 273 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 5.8 seconds (manual)/5.7 seconds (DCT)
Quarter Mile 14.3 seconds (manual)/14.2 seconds (automatic)
Top Speed 127 MPH

6. 2025 Honda Civic Si – 135 MPH

Fastest Cars Under 30000

If the FL5 Honda Civic Type R is too expensive for you, consider checking out the updated Civic Si. Launched as a 2022 model year, the updated Civic Si is a tuned-down Type R with all the essential features you’d need. A 200-horsepower turbo four? Check. A six-speed manual? Check. A stiffer suspension setup with beefier brakes? Check.

While it was launched as a sub-$30,995 sports car back in the day, the Civic Si is now priced at $30,995. If you want to spend a grand more to get a brand-new model, it’s a no-brainer choice. Alternatively, you could look for used 2022 or 2023 models if your budget is below $30,000. Brand new or not, it’s the same car inside and out.

For a front-wheel drive sports car, the Honda Civic Si isn’t the slowest. Independent tests have recorded a 6.8-second 0-60 MPH run. Also, its top speed is limited to 135 MPH. Think of it like this: it’s a sports car disguised as a four-door sedan with decent cargo space, a peppy engine, and even a limited-slip differential to help you corner with maximum grip!

2025 Honda Civic Si Specs:
Engine 1.5L Turbocharged I4
Transmission 6-speed manual
Drive Type FWD
Horsepower 200
Torque 192 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 6.8 seconds
Quarter Mile 15.1 seconds
Top Speed 135 MPH

5. 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata – 139 MPH

Fastest Affordable Cars
2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata (Image Credit: Mazda)

Another affordable sports car that’s going to put a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. By default, the Miata comes as a roadster with a soft top, and a rev-happy 2.0-liter four-pot is the standard engine choice throughout the trims. While you can get an MX-5 Miata with an optional automatic gearbox, it’s best suited with the six-speed manual.

As for the power figures, the Miata isn’t the most potent on the list, but the 2.0-liter unit pushes out a respectable 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. 0-60 MPH comes in at 5.5 seconds, with the manual, and the top speed is drag-limited to 139 MPH.

The Miata offers the quintessential budget sports car experience, and its very responsive steering, rear-wheel drive, and sturdy chassis will ensure you’ll complain less about its cheap-feeling interior (given you stick with the base model with zero customizations).

However, enthusiasts will love that the interior of the Miata has a good mix of analog and digital controls. So, the instrumentation is fully analog with a tiny LCD screen, and you can control the AC with the knobs under the 8.8-inch infotainment display.

For a starting price of $29,830, the Miata Sport is one of the best affordable sports cars of 2025.

2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport Specs:
Engine 2.0L I4
Transmission 6-speed manual
Drive Type RWD
Horsepower 181
Torque 151 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 5.5 seconds
Quarter Mile 14.3 seconds
Top Speed 139 MPH

4. 2025 Dodge Hornet GT – 140 MPH

Fastest Affordable Cars List
2025 Dodge Hornet GT (Image Credit: Dodge)

The 2025 Dodge Hornet GT is a hot hatch in a crossover body. If you don’t believe me, you should see its performance specs. For $29,995, you’re getting 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque from a 2.0-liter turbo-four. Also, its standard all-wheel drive gives the traction needed off the line. As a result, it can do 0-60 MPH in 5.5 seconds and complete a quarter-mile run in 14.3 seconds. As per Dodge, the base Hornet GT’s top speed is capped at 140 MPH.

With the Hornet GT, you get all the bells and whistles, such as a brake-based torque vectoring system, sport suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, and even black leather seats! The Hornet GT combines the best of both (hot hatch and crossover) worlds and is one of the most powerful crossovers under 30k.

2025 Dodge Hornet GT Specs:
Engine 2.0L Turbocharged I4
Transmission 9-speed automatic
Drive Type AWD
Horsepower 268
Torque 295 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 5.5 seconds
Quarter Mile 14.3 seconds
Top Speed 140 MPH

3. 2025 Toyota GR86 – 140 MPH

Fastest Affordable Car
2022 Toyota GR86 Premium (Image Credit: Toyota)

Cars like the GR86 are the reason why you won’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy each drive. There aren’t many fun budget sports cars on the market, and the GR86 stands apart in the segment, thanks to its 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine.

The engine is rated at 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. If you didn’t know, the boxer 4 is derived from Subaru, which also has its own version of an affordable sports car, like the GR86, called the BRZ. It starts from about $34,000. The GR86 is a sleek-looking rear-wheel drive sports car that you can get for $30,400 brand new.

The 2025 Toyota GR86 isn’t just a pretty face. Independent tests have recorded a 5.4-second 0-60 MPH run and a 14-second quarter-mile run. While you wouldn’t get a GR86 for how fast it can go, it’s electronically capped at 140 MPH. The GR86 is often praised by enthusiasts because of its driving dynamics for such an affordable price point.

2025 Toyota GR86 Base Specs:
Engine 2.4L Flat-4
Transmission 6-speed manual
Drive Type RWD
Horsepower 228
Torque 184 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 5.4 seconds
Quarter Mile 14.0 seconds

2. 2025 Mini Cooper 4 Door – 150 MPH

Fastest Cars Under 30 Thousand Usd
2025 MINI Cooper S (Image Credit: MINI)

Being the most popular Mini, the Cooper needs no introduction, and this might be your last chance to grab one before the next all-electric Cooper arrives. The Mini Cooper is a hot hatchback, not a proper sports car like the 911 and the Mustang.

However, that doesn’t mean it falls short regarding performance. For $29,950, the base four-door Mini Cooper offers a modest 161 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque from a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine.

It might be one of the least potent cars on this list, but it doesn’t mean it’s a slow car. It can clock a 150 MPH top speed, which is pretty cool for a car of its size. However, the base Cooper isn’t the peppiest off the line. It takes about 7.9 seconds to reach 60 MPH from a standstill and can reach the quarter-mile in about 15 seconds.

Being an underpowered car, the base four-door Mini Cooper can return 32 MPG combined—that is, when you won’t be thinking of clocking a high-speed run.

2025 Mini Cooper 4 Door Base Specs:
Engine 2.0L Turbocharged I4
Transmission 7-speed DCT
Drive Type FWD
Horsepower 161
Torque 184 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 7.9 seconds
Quarter Mile 15 seconds (approx.)
Top Speed 150 MPH

1. Used 2024 Ford Mustang Ecoboost – 155 MPH

Fastest Affordable Sports Cars
2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost (Image Credit: Ford)

Mustangs depreciate fast, which means you can get a relatively new used 2024 Mustang Ecoboost model cheaper than its current retail price! This makes it one of the best performance cars under $30k.

Of course, considering a four-cylinder Mustang could feel like a grievous sin, but you’re getting 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque from a 2.3-liter engine. Independent tests show that the ‘24 Mustang Ecoboost can do 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds and can reach a quarter mile in 13.2 seconds. That means it’s quicker off the line than a 996 911 Carrera. Its top speed is electronically limited to 155 MPH.

Like modern sports cars, it features a limited-slip differential, which enhances high-speed cornering stability. Also, on the inside, you get a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a 12.4-inch driver’s display, and a 13.2-inch infotainment display. You can find a low-mileage 2024 Mustang Ecoboost for about $29,000, making a sweet deal for an iconic American muscle car.

2024 Ford Mustang Ecoboost Specs:
Engine 2.3L Turbocharged I4
Transmission 10-speed automatic
Drive Type RWD
Horsepower 315
Torque 350 lb-ft
0-60 MPH 4.5 seconds
Quarter Mile 13.2 seconds
Top Speed 155 MPH

Which Car Would You Choose Under $30k?

That’s about it! These are the fastest cars under $30,000. Not all of them can be bought brand new, since their prices have gone up over the years, and with the inclusion of more recent features.

However, of all the listed vehicles, the Toyota GR86 and the Mazda MX-5 Miata could be the ideal choice for many enthusiasts, thanks to some of the core qualities like manual transmission, RWD, lightweight body, and a playful chassis.

Also, for the customers who want both performance and practicality, the 2025 Dodge Hornet GT would make more sense. What’s your favorite car from the list? Let us know in the comments below!
