New Nissan Technology Repels Dirt and Adds to Roster of Innovation

Nissan has announced testing on a trade-marked nano-paint coating that could make car washing obsolete.

“Ultra-Ever Dry” is a water and oil resistant material that gets sprayed over the usual paintwork of a car. This works in the same way as water off a duck’s back (no idiom intended), with liquid and grime sliding off the paint before it gets the chance to stick.

However, those who loathe the car wash or the trusty sponge will have to wait a little longer before they can renounce car washing for good. Early testing is being performed on the Nissan Note at the European Technical Centre in Bedfordshire, UK.

A spokesperson for Nissan told the Daily Mail, “So far, the coating has responded well to common use cases including rain, spray, frost, sleet and standing water.” Before it can go onto the market, Nissan need to test Ultra-Ever Dry long-term to see how it reacts to aging under a variety of weather conditions.

As for the idea, chief marketing manager Geraldine Ingham says, “The Nissan Note has been carefully engineered to take the stress out of customer driving and Nissan’s engineers are constantly thinking of new ways to make families’ lives easier. We are committed to addressing everyday problems our customers face and will always consider testing exciting, cutting edge technology like this incredible coating application.”

So what other exciting technologies will Ultra-Ever Dry be accompanying, should it ever get to the market?

Lots, is the short answer. The new Nissan Note is packed full of highly advanced technologies, making this super-mini one seriously accessorized purchase. However, none of the extras are superfluous – each one providing its own unique economical purpose.

For example, when driving over 20mph, a blind spot detector will illuminate the wing mirror with a discreet light to let you know that a vehicle is approaching. If a vehicle is dangerously close, it will illuminate brightly with an audible warning.

Another innovative technology is the Lane Departure Warning System. If you start drifting out of lane without indicating, it will remind you to straighten up. Whilst this might seem like a bit of a nuisance, the technology adjusts depending on the road you’re on. Features like this not only improve overall safety but they could improve your driving too.

Although reviews have accused the Note of being a little aesthetically drab, it’s advanced Around View Monitor is unarguably ground-breaking. Thanks to 4 cameras positioned around the vehicle, a 5.8” color touch screen shows you a bird’s eye view of your car and its surroundings, making reversing and parallel parking easier than ever.

Gerry Bucke, general manager at Adrian Flux, says of the Nissan Note, “We’re seeing some amazingly advanced technologies coming out of the automotive industry at the moment but the Nissan Note is at the forefront of economical, family-orientated innovation.”

Indeed, should Ultra-Ever Dry make it to the market, it will be another amazing feature on a car that is already bursting through the boundaries of the traditional family car.
