2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante Review: A Super SUV with Swagger

Let’s face it: the phrase “super SUV” feels like an oxymoron. SUVs are meant for shuttling the kiddos to soccer practices and loading up on Costco runs, not tearing up racetracks and blowing past sports cars when the light turns green. Yet, Lamborghini took that challenge.  The crazy engineers at Lambo strapped a jet engine, well almost, onto a family hauler platform and called it the Urus Performante. So, what’s this Italian machine really like?

Who Let This Bull Out?

The 2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante looks like it was designed by someone who thought the world needed an SUV that could intimidate a T-Rex. Aggressive sharp lines, massive air intakes, and more carbon fiber than a Formula 1 race car.  Pull up to any valet stand in this statement piece and you’ll turn more heads than a Victoria Secret model walking through a prison. But is it all bark and no bite? Oh, it bites. Hard.

What’s Under the Hood?

Lamborghini didn’t hold back with the Performante. Here are the specs that make it a monster:

  • Engine: 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8
  • Horsepower: 657 hp
  • Torque: 627 lb-ft
  • 0-60 mph: 3 seconds flat
  • Top Speed: 190 mph
  • Weight Reduction: 103 pounds lighter than the standard Urus, thanks to carbon fiber components
  • Suspension: Recalibrated for better handling and lower ride height

This SUV doesn’t just sprint; it gallops like a raging bull because, well, it is one. The turbo V8 delivers a symphony of growls, pops and crackles that’ll have you searching for tunnels just to hear the satisfying echoes.

On the Road: Family Car or Road Warrior?

Driving the Urus Performante is an experience. In Corsa mode (Lambo speak for “track mode”), it’s ridiculously quick and surprisingly agile for its size. The recalibrated suspension makes cornering almost… enjoyable? Yes, you’re still aware that you’re piloting a 4,740-pound Italian bull, but it’s the most agile beast you’ll ever meet.

Switch to Strada (street mode), and the Performante dials things back a notch. It’s still a Lambo, but one that won’t spill your $8 latte on a morning commute. However, fair warning: the stiff suspension might have you second-guessing your decision on cobblestone streets or pothole-ridden roads. Comfort is NOT its priority.

Interior: Luxury Meets Fighter Jet

The interior of the Urus Performante feels like a futuristic cockpit. Lamborghini’s signature hexagonal design elements are everywhere, and the combination of Alcantara, leather, and carbon fiber screams opulence.

  • Infotainment System: A dual-screen setup that’s functional but not the most intuitive
  • Space: Enough for five adults and a respectable cargo area (yes, you can do Costco runs in this thing!)
  • Extras: Optional 3D Bang & Olufsen sound system, ambient lighting, and seemingly endless customization options

However, be prepared for some quirkiness. The infotainment’s menus feel like they were designed by someone who thought, “How confusing can we make this while still being usable?” And visibility? Let’s just say the rearview camera will be your best friend.

Competitors: The Battle of the Super SUVs

The 2024 Lambo Urus Performante faces some stiff competition. Here are some of its fiercest rivals:

  1. Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT
    • Price: Starting at $197,950
    • Specs: 631 hp, 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds
    • Why Consider It? Exceptional handling and German precision, but lacks the flair of the Urus.
  2. Aston Martin DBX 707
    • Price: Starting at $239,086
    • Specs: 697 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds
    • Why Consider It? British elegance with brutal power, though it’s more reserved in design.
  3. Ferrari Purosangue
    • Price: Starting at $400,000+
    • Specs: 715 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds
    • Why Consider It? It’s a Ferrari SUV—need we say more? However, it’s significantly pricier.
  4. Bentley Bentayga Speed
    • Price: Starting at $263,000
    • Specs: 626 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds
    • Why Consider It? Ultimate luxury and comfort, but less focused on outright performance.

Each competitor offers a unique flavor, but none quite match the Urus Performante’s audacious level of supercar DNA.

Is the Lamborghini Urus Performante Worth It?

The 2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante is not for the faint of heart…or wallet. With a starting price of around $260,000 (before yo start adding options), it’s a serious bank drain. But what you get is a high-performance sport utility vehicle that’s equal parts outrageous, luxurious, and thrilling.

So, would you take the 2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante over the others? Is it the ultimate super SUV, or would you opt for something a bit more understated (well if you can call any of these vehicles understated)? Let us know in the comments below!
