2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante Review: A Super SUV with Swagger
Let’s not kid ourselves: “super SUV” sounds like an oxymoron. SUVs are for hauling the kiddos to soccer practice and stocking up on Costco runs, not laying waste to racetracks and blowing past sports cars at green lights. Yet, Lambo took that challenge. The loonies at Lambo bolted a jet engine, well, almost, onto a family truckster and named it the Urus Performante. So, what is this Italian machine actually like?
Who Let This Bull Out?
The 2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante looks like it was penned by the imagination of someone who decided the world needed an SUV that could terrify a T-Rex. Mean, sharp lines, huge gaping air intakes, and more carbon fiber than a Formula 1 race car. Pull up to any valet stand in this bad boy and you’ll break more necks than a Victoria’s Secret model in a men’s prison. But is it all bark with no bite? Oh, it bites. Hard.
What’s Under the Hood?
Lamborghini really did give it everything with the Performante. Here are the specs that make it a beast:
- Engine: 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8
- Horsepower: 657 HP
- Torque: 627 lb-ft
- 0-60 mph: 3 seconds flat
- Top Speed: 190 mph
- On a Diet: 103 pounds lighter than a stock Urus, all thanks to a healthy dose of carbon fiber
- Suspension: Re-worked for improved ride & lower stance
It’s an experience to drive the Urus Performante. In Corsa mode (Lambo-speak for “track mode”) it’s stupid fast and remarkably nimble for its size. The reworked suspension makes taking corners fun and confidence-inspiring? You’ll never forget that you’re driving a big ol’ 4,740-pound Italian bull, but it’s the nimblest beast you’ll ever encounter.
On the Road: Family Car or Road Warrior?
It’s an experience to drive the Urus Performante. In Corsa mode (Lambo-speak for “track mode”) it’s stupid fast and remarkably nimble for its size. The reworked suspension makes taking corners fun and confidence-inspiring. You’ll never forget that you’re driving a big ol’ 4,740-pound Italian bull, but it’s the nimblest beast you’ll ever encounter.
Flip it to Strada (street mode) and the Performante tones it all down a bit. It’s still Lambo, but there’s no risk of spilling your $8 latte on a morning commute. But be forewarned: The stiff suspension may have you reconsidering your choice once you’ve hit the cobblestone streets or pothole-adorned roads. Comfort is NOT its priority.
Interior: Luxury Meets Fighter Jet
The Urus Performante’s interior is reminiscent of a cockpit of the future. Everywhere you look, there are Lamborghini’s signature hexagonal design elements, and the Alcantara, leather, and carbon fiber all declare its luxury.
- Infotainment: Dual-screen setup works, but it isn’t the easiest to use
- Space: Plenty for five adults and some decent trunk space (yes, this thing can do Costco runs!)
- Extras: The optional 3D Bang & Olufsen sound system, ambient lighting, and seemingly limitless options for customization
But get ready for a bit of oddness. The infotainment menus seem to have been drawn up by someone saying to themselves, ‘Just how complicated can we make this, yet still be usable?’ And visibility? Let’s put it this way: The rearview camera will be your new BFF.
The Others: Battle of the Super SUVs
The 2024 Lambo Urus Performante faces some stiff competition. Here are some of its fiercest rivals:
-
Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT
- Price: Starting at $197,950
- Specs: 631 hp, 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds
- Why Consider It? Superb handling and German precision, but it doesn’t have the pizzazz of the Urus
-
Aston Martin DBX 707
- Price: Starting at $239,086
- Specs: 697 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds
- Why Consider It? British elegance with brutal power, but demurer in its design
-
Ferrari Purosangue
- Price: Starting at $400,000+
- Specs: 715 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds
- Why Consider It? It’s a Ferrari SUV — do we really need to say anything else? However, it’s significantly pricier
-
Bentley Bentayga Speed
- Price: Starting at $263,000
- Specs: 626 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds
- Why Consider It? End all be all of luxury and comfort, but slightly less balls-out performance-focused
Each rival has something different to taste, but no one offers as much unedited supercar essence as the Urus Performante’s version.
Is the Lambo Urus Performante Worth It?
The 2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante isn’t for the faint of heart … or wallet. At a starting price of roughly $260,000 (before you really start to load on the options), it’s a real bank drain. But what you end up with is a high-performance sport utility vehicle that’s part outrageous, part luxurious, part thrilling.
So, would you choose the 2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante over the rest? The question being then, is this the extreme super SUV, or might you prefer something a little less shouty – errr, understated (as if that is even possible with any of these rides)? Tell us in the comments below!
