Electrifying the Roads: The 2024 Chevy Blazer EV Review

One thing is clear, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV isn’t for sissies. It’s here to electrify (pun intended) the competition. Whether you’re already an EV convert or simply inclined to give it whirl, the Blazer EV melds style with performance and SUV practicality for a drive that’s as green as it is mean— in all the best ways.

But is it worth the hype, and more importantly, should you spend your hard earned moola on one? Let’s find out…

TRIMS THAT FIT EVERY FLAVOR

2024 Chevy Blazer EV family spans spectrum:

  • 1LT (Entry level trim for those who want a taste of EV life but also doesn’t wish to break the bank.)
  • 2LT: More equipment, both comfort- and tech-wise
  • RS | The one you want if you like your sporty with a dose of style
  • SS: The thrill in every moment high-performance powerhouse.

WHAT SETS THE 2024 CHEVY BLAZER EV APART?

  • Battery: Up to 320 miles of range (est).
  • Performance: SS trim, 557 hp
  • Charging: 78 miles of range in just 10 minutes (fast charging)
  • Interior: A massive 17.7-inch touchscreen, a spacious cabin with lots of tech items in it.
  • Tow rating: 1,500 pounds (good for weekend warriors)
  • Starting Price: $44,995 (base 1LT), up to approx. $65,995 (SS)

Chevy has definitely made sure there is a Blazer EV for everyone. This new generation ticks almost all the boxes, and whether you want practicality or some fairly serious performance there’s a version to suit your needs.

DRIVING THE EV TREND

Speaking of, let’s not forget the elephant — or maybe the electric motor — in the room. Car manufacturers are betting big on full electric vehicles. The Blazer EV is a continuation of Chevy’s plan to move away from internal combustion engines (ICE). But is this trend sustainable?

EV adoption is exploding but worries about things like charging infrastructure, battery sustainability and range anxiety are lingering for many would-be buyers. Still, the Blazer EV hopes to be less anxiety-inducing in these areas thanks to its comparatively decent range and speedy recharging abilities. Honestly though, there is nothing more satisying than driving by a gas station like…not today.

HOW DOES IT HANDLE?

Unfortunately, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV is a… shocking experience to drive. (Okay, I promise to quit with the puns.) The SS, in particular, is a monster. Despite the high stance, it also has all-wheel drive and delivers instant torque that makes it a sports car at heart. The RS trim is a nice mix of sportiness and comfort, as are the 1LT and 2LT for everyday drivers.

It rides well, too, providing a silent cabin and smooth handling. Chevy’s engineers had clearly taken pains to ensure the Blazer EV isn’t a one-trick pony; it’s an easy car to like for reasons other than its powertrain.

COMPETITORS IN THE RING

The midsize electric SUV ranks are becoming quite crowded and the Blazer EV will have its back up against the wall against some renowned competition. Let’s see how it stacks up:

Ford Mustang Mach-E
  • Range: Up to 312 miles.
  • Price: Starting at $42,995.
  • The Good: A sporty design icon with the trust of Ford behind it.

While the Mach-E adds flavor, it comes up just short of what the SS Blazer EV is capable.

Tesla Model Y
  • Range: Up to 330 miles.
  • Price: Starting at $47,490.
  • The Good: Tesla’s vast supercharger network and minimalist design is a winner.

While Tesla might have the AM band cornered, there are different reasons some people might not feel compelled by its interior design or price.

Hyundai Ioniq 5
  • Range: Up to 303 miles.
  • Price: Starting at $41,450.
  • The Good: Old school which, on the plus side, equals good looks and a cushy ride.

For those seeking more speed, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 remains one of the best values on style but won’t match the kick from some versions of Chevy’s Blazer SS.

Kia EV6
  • Range: Up to 310 miles.
  • Price: Starting at $48,700.
  • The Good: Sportier design … on a practical package

Whilst the EV6 is right up there, it can’t tow or make as much power as the Blazer EV.

IS THE BLAZER EV WORTH IT?

The 2024 Chevy Blazer EV should appeal to those seeking a stylish, versatile, and capable electric SUV. It offers:

  • Trim levels available suit a multitude of lifestyle choices and budgets.
  • Competitive range and performance.
  • Eye-catching design and cutting-edge tech.

Still, the ultimate fate of the Blazer EV could very well depend on where buyers’ allegiance lies and how much they’re willing to accept in trade for it.
