LaFerrari – The Next Generation Super Ferrari
Ferrari enthusiasts like us have been waiting seemingly an eternity since the last Ferrari Enzo supercar rolled off the line in 2004. We wondered how Ferrari would be able to top such an amazing piece of automotive engineering achievement. In our opinion Ferrari produced nothing close to the Enzo’s insane performance abilities until 2009 when we met the Ferrari 458 Italia. The 458 was an absolute dream to drive. It pulled harder than you would expect (even for a new Ferrari) and handled so intuitively that the car almost felt like an extension of you. The Ferrari 458 gave us much hope that when the next generation Enzo is released, that it will be an even superior machine to the already seemingly perfect 458 Italia.
Ferrari made history this week when it unveiled the all new Ferrari LaFerrari hypercar boasting 949 horsepower and 663 lb-ft of torque. As with other high performance cars, such as the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder, the Ferrari LaFerrari will be a hybrid. Considering the horsepower this hybrid is packing this is no Prius and the hybrid element only enhances the performance. The electric motor chips in an extra 160 horsepower to the rear wheels via a sophisticated system that replenishes the power under braking forces.
Beyond the absurd horsepower, the LaFerrari will only weight around 2,800 pounds and affording it the ability to reach over 217 miles per hour! The Ferrari LaFerreri is about as we would have expected it to be. Very fast, powerful, flamboyant styling, exclusive (499 built) and expensive. The LaFerrari is expected to retail for about $1.3 million dollars, which is a relative bargain compared to the Lamborghini Veneno hypercar that was unveiled yesterday at the Geneva Auto Show costing $4.5 million dollars.
